Picasso was born in 1881, and he died in 1973.  Although Picasso spent a good amount of his life in France, he often used imagery from his native country, Spain (bullfights were a favorite subject).  One of his most famous paintings, Guernica, was inspired by the bombing of the town during the Spanish Civil War. Along with Georges Braque, he founded the style of painting known as Cubism.
